Try Hockey for Free with River City Youth Hockey!

River City Youth Hockey is proud to partner with USA Hockey to host a Try Hockey for Free event. This special day is designed for kids who have never played before and want to experience the excitement of hockey in a safe and welcoming environment.

Our experienced coaches and volunteers will be there every step of the way to help your child gear up, get on the ice, and have a blast.

What is a Try Hockey for Free event?

It’s a USA Hockey-sponsored event that gives kids a chance to get on the ice and experience hockey at no cost. Kids will be on the ice alongside current RCYH coaches, players and volunteers. It’s designed for first-time players, and no prior skating or hockey experience is needed.

Who can participate?

All children ranging from 4-9 with no prior hockey experience.

What equipment does my child need?

The necessary hockey equipment will be provided at sign-in. Dress your child in warm, flexible clothing (like sweatpants and a long-sleeve shirt).

Does my child need to know how to skate?

No skating experience is required! Coaches and volunteers will be on the ice to help beginners feel comfortable and have fun.

Can parents go on the ice?

For safety and insurance reasons, only registered coaches and volunteers are allowed on the ice. However, you’re encouraged to watch and cheer from the stands or rinkside.

What happens after the event?

If your child is interested in playing hockey, volunteers will be onsite to help guide you through registration.

Is there any cost or obligation?

Nope—it's completely free, with no commitment required. It’s all about introducing kids to hockey in a fun, low-pressure environment.
