Volunteer Hours
Bantams (14U), Peewees (12U), Squirts (10U) — families are required 30-hours of volunteering. (Maximum of 10-hours may be fulfilled via the home registered age-group tournament)
Mites (8U)
- Mite (first year) — First year Mite families are required 5-hours of volunteering
- Mite (returning) — Returning Mite families are required 10-hours of volunteering
NOTE: All volunteer hours must be documented with the Volunteer Coordinator. Credit will only be given if you sign up online or communicate directly with the Volunteer Coordinator or your team’s Parent Rep. If you complete a volunteer activity without signing up in advance, it’s your responsibility to report it to ensure your hours are recorded.
Volunteering Opportunities
- Concessions – Concessions are a major source of revenue for the rink and a fun, easy way to earn volunteer hours. Shifts will be available for sign-up once the season begins.
- Pro Shop – Greet guests at Green Island, sharpen skates using the Sparx machine, and sell tape, gear, and other hockey essentials.
- Game Box – Earn hours by running the clock, keeping score, announcing, or managing the penalty box during games.
- Mite Helpers – Assist with getting kids suited up, bathroom breaks, and other off-ice support as needed. Note: Any volunteer role working directly with players requires completion of SafeSport certification (online).
- Ice Installation & Ice Painting – Help install and paint the ice before the start of the season.
- Facility Cleaning & Maintenance – Prepare and maintain Green Island Ice Arena before, during, and after the season.
Volunteer Hours Deposit & Buyout Option
Each family is required to submit one volunteer deposit check at the start of the season. Requirements are based on the oldest skater's level of play. Checks will be returned or destroyed at the end of the season if the required volunteer hours are completed. If volunteer hours are not met, the check will be cashed.
Volunteer Hour Requirements & Deposit Amounts:
- Bantams (14U), Peewees (12U), Squirts (10U) – 30 hours = $600 deposit
- Mites (Returning) – 10 hours = $200 deposit
- Mites (First Year) – 5 hours = $100 deposit
Volunteer Buyout Option:
Families may choose to buy out their volunteer hours by paying the equivalent amount at registration instead of submitting a deposit check:
- $600 / $200 / $100 depending on level
- This fee helps support RCYH’s rink management and operations.
